Despite appearing at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards as male alter ego Jo Calderone, Lady Gaga won the Moonman for Best Female Video for her equality anthem "Born This Way."

Mother Monster took the stage to accept her statuette from the women of MTV's "Jersey Shore" and actress Cloris Leachman, staying in character as Jo Calderone to deliver her speech.

"I'm so happy to accept the award tonight because Gaga's not here for Best Female Video," she said. "Thank you so much to [director] Nick Knight. And I know if she was here tonight, she would want me to thank her Little Monsters. You know, earlier tonight, they told me I got Best Video With a Message. But you know what? There's so many great artists in this room, sitting over there in that front row and some performed tonight. Every video they've got has a f---ing message. I feel so blessed to be here, and it's true. It doesn't matter who you are. Gay, straight, bi, lesbian, transgender — you were born this way. God bless you, MTV. Yeah!"

Gaga beat out Adele ("Rolling in the Deep"), Beyoncé ("Run the World (Girls)"), Katy Perry ("Firework") and Nicki Minaj ("Super Bass") for the Best Female Video prize. But she wasn't just busy racking up awards. In addition to her two honors, the diva kicked off the VMAs with her energetic performance of the hit single "Yoü and I." Gaga-as-Jo again graced the stage later in the evening, to present the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award to one of her personal musical inspirations, Britney Spears, and tried to make out with Brit while handing her the award.
