As the conclusion of 2010 fast approaches, end-of-year superlatives have been popping up in every corner of the entertainment media world. Time just named Mark Zuckerberg its Person of the Year. Entertainment Weekly dubbed Taylor Swift the Entertainer of the Year. And MTV News has been busy doling out a slew of year-end tributes: Eminem and Katy Perry were just named our #2 man and #2 woman of the year, and on Friday, we'll name the folks who nabbed our top honors.

People also got in on the action, naming Sandra Bullock the magazine's Woman of the Year. No doubt she's had a spectacular year and triumphed over adversity. She started off by winning the Best Actress Oscar, based on her performance in the uplifting drama "The Blind Side."

"Did I really earn this, or did I just wear you all down?" she said in her classic acceptance speech.

But shortly after that triumphant night, her family was rocked by scandal when news broke that husband Jesse James had been carrying on an extramarital affair. Bullock temporarily disappeared from view and proceeded with plans to adopt a son she named Louis Bardo.

"Bad things happen, but she celebrates the good ones," a source tells People. "And Louis is a wonderful celebration of good things."

Bullock returned to the public spotlight in June, showing up at the MTV Movie Awards to accept the Generation Award. "No matter what you might have seen or heard or read lately, I love what I do," she said onstage. "And I'm not going anywhere. Speaking of what you might have read or heard lately, I thought I'd take this moment to clear up a couple things."

She then pulled out a slip of paper and read, "I am not dead. Number 2, everybody has cellulite, not just me. Paparazzi need more flattering lenses. Whoever established the high road and how high it was going to be should be fired."
